Myths and truths about caring for your hair in summer

Surely you have heard a lot of advice regarding hair, such as, “The last rinse when you wash your hair has to be with cold water to give it more shine”, “If you cut the ends the hair will grow faster” and many more. We have also heard several myths and truths about hair care in summer.

In order to obtain the best information from the hands of our best professionals, we have directly asked our stylists from our salons in Madrid and Barcelona, which of the myths are true and which are false. Whether you wear extensions or not, this interests you!

Our stylists deny them

► Chlorine turns your highlights “green.”

TRUE. Because the water we wash with frequently contains copper, it can oxidize upon contact with chlorine, which can give rise to the green tone that is more visible in blonde hair. In addition to color, chlorine oxidizes the surface of the hair, leaving it feeling dry and rough.

► Never untangle hair when wet.

TRUE. Hair is weaker when it is wet, if we add chlorine and salt when we leave the pool or the beach, it is even more sensitive to breakage. If you want to avoid having to untangle when you get out of the water, you can put a ponytail or braid before bathing, this way you will arrive with your hair untangled and ready to be washed. This is one of our top tips if you wear adhesive extensions, which will help keep them in perfect condition without damaging the adhesive.

► Cut your hair after summer to clean it.

False. It is advisable before and after summer to cut the ends of your hair a little. Additionally, we recommend the use of serum, heat protectant or sunscreen during exposure to the sun or thermal tools. In this way, we will try to keep the tips hydrated and in the best possible condition. If you decide to cut your losses, and give yourself a good cut, you can always help yourself with our clip extensions if you miss showing off long hair.

► It is better not to get highlights in summer.

False. If you follow the instructions indicated to take care of the most sensitized and dry hair, you won't have any problems. Keeping in mind to always carry a sunscreen and mask in your travel bag, so you can always keep your hair hydrated and cared for, in addition to protecting it from chlorine and salt. Another option if you don't want to use color in summer is to change the color of your hair with the help of adhesive extensions. Our stylists will help you achieve a highlighted effect or balayage super trend, in just 20 minutes!

► Excessive use of thermal tools damages hair in summer.

TRUE. And in winter too. The indiscriminate use of thermal tools can cause dryness and damage to the hair cuticles. We always recommend the use of heat protectors before using an iron or dryer. We will protect the hair while hydrating it.
